Job summary

Farfetch is seeking an AI & Automation Engineer in Porto to partner with Product, Data and Operations. You will build production-grade AI systems, design scalable pipelines and reduce bottlenecks across the Catalogue and Content domain.

You will balance deterministic scripting with advanced AI agents, focusing on reliable, cost-efficient solutions. The role requires 5+ years in software/AI, strong Python/SQL skills, and hands-on Airflow experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of development experience in Software Engineering, MLOps, Applied AI, Automation or Data.
• A pragmatic approach to technology: knowing when to use AI, automation or neither.
• Deep expertise in Python, SQL and designing clean, maintainable backend services.
• Hands-on experience with workflow orchestration platforms (e.g., Apache Airflow) and API integrations.
• Strong knowledge of prompt engineering, vector databases/embeddings, RAG architectures and output validation frameworks (e.g., Pydantic, Instructor, Guardrails).
• Familiarity with Git, Docker and cloud deployments.
• Experience with AI safety considerations: prompt injection defense, output validation and reliability engineering in production.
• Ability to work across technical and business contexts and communicate with non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Partner with stakeholders across Catalogue and Content, Product and Data to identify automation opportunities and translate them into practical solutions.
• Own the full lifecycle from problem framing to production deployment, monitoring and optimization.
• Build GenAI applications and LLM-based workflows with RAG, structured outputs and multi-step reasoning.
• Construct backend services and pipelines using Python, Airflow, APIs and cloud-native solutions.
• Define and track operational metrics to measure ROI of deployed solutions.
• Establish reusable patterns for reliable AI and automation with safety guardrails.
• Prototype emerging AI capabilities and evaluate production-ready implementations.
• Help shape AI practice into a fully formed capability for Catalogue and Content.
