Billennium is a global technology company with over 20 years of experience. We are seeking a Technical Product Owner for a global pharmaceutical client to bridge business needs and engineering, AI/data, and solution architecture.

In this technically fluent role you will translate requirements into backlog items, collaborate with AI leads and architects, and guide technical decisions with stakeholders. English proficiency required; remote/hybrid options available.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in technical product ownership or related role.
• Experience with a live software product in production with real user base and incident load.
• Strong ability to convert business objectives into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, technical requirements and non-functional requirements.
• Strong technical literacy: APIs, integrations, data flows, AI/ML concepts, system constraints and architecture discussions.
• Ability to work with software engineers, data scientists, AI specialists and solution architects and explain dependencies to stakeholders.
• Experience decomposing complex initiatives into backlog items.
• Proven ability to improve backlog quality, requirement readiness and delivery predictability.
• Working knowledge of Jira and empirical product delivery metrics.
• Ability to balance production defects, technical work and feature demand in backlog.
• Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
• Professional proficiency in written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Translate prioritized business needs into technically clear backlog items with technical acceptance criteria and non-functional requirements.
• Lead technical backlog refinement ahead of Sprint Planning.
• Identify and articulate technical work requiring prioritization, including debt and platform improvements.
• Provide technical input on feasibility, effort, risk, dependency and sequencing.
• Translate between business intent and technical constraints for delivery realism.
• Collaborate with AI Lead and Architects to reflect AI-specific constraints in backlog items.
• Collaborate with Solution Architect to reflect architectural constraints in backlog items and acceptance criteria.
• Participate in triage of incidents and change requests; distinguish defects from newrequirements.
• Maintain visibility of production support impact on planned delivery.
• Connect ServiceNow tickets to backlog items where relevant.
• Scale, localization and compliance considerations in backlog requirements; ensure AI acts and validation are defined.
• Define measurable outcomes and baselines for AI initiatives for evaluation.

About the Project:

For our client, a global pharmaceutical company we are looking for a Technical Product Owner.

The role sits at the intersection of business product ownership, engineering, AI/data

science and solution architecture. It provides the Business Product Owner with the

technical evidence required to make prioritization and sequencing decisions, ensures

requirements are sufficiently understood before development begins, and maintains

transparency around technical dependencies, risks and non-functional needs.

This is a technically fluent product role. The Technical Product Owner works closely with

the AI Tech Lead and Architects and ensures that their technical input is translated into

actionable product and backlog decisions.

What we are looking for:

• Minimum 5 years in technical product ownership, product management, business analysis or a comparable product-facing technical delivery role.
• Experience working with a software product that is live in production and has a real user base, operational dependencies and incident load.
• Strong ability to convert business objectives into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, technical requirements and non-functional requirements.
• Strong technical literacy, including the ability to understand APIs, integrations, data flows, AI/ML concepts, system constraints and architecture discussions sufficiently to identify implications for requirements and delivery.
• Ability to work effectively with software engineers, data scientists, AI specialists and solution architects, ask informed technical questions and make dependencies and trade-offs understandable to business stakeholders.
• Experience decomposing complex initiatives into independently deliverable backlog items.
• Demonstrated ability to improve backlog quality, requirement readiness and delivery predictability.
• Working command of Jira and empirical product delivery metrics.
• Experience balancing production defects, technical work and feature demand within a product backlog.
• Ability to challenge stakeholders constructively and support recommendations with evidence.

What you will do:

• Technical requirements and backlog readiness - Translate prioritized business needs into technically clear and buildable backlog items. Define technical acceptance criteria and relevant non-functional requirements, including performance, error handling, observability, data quality, security considerations and language coverage. Lead or facilitate technical backlog refinement ahead of Sprint Planning.
• Technical backlog management - Identify and articulate technical work requiring Business Product Owner prioritization, including technical debt, platform improvements, refactoring, observability, upgrades and engineering enablement.
• Supporting product decisions - Provide the Business Product Owner with technical input on feasibility, effort, risk, dependency and sequencing. Translate between business intent and technical constraints so product decisions reflect delivery reality. Ensure major assumptions, dependencies and technical uncertainties are explicit during estimation and planning. Represent technical product considerations in stakeholder discussions when required.
• Collaboration with AI and engineering - Partner with the AI Tech Lead during refinement of AI, ML, LLM, data science and agentic AI requirements. Ensure AI-specific assumptions, evaluation criteria, data dependencies and technical constraints are reflected in backlog items. Translate AI technical complexity into implications for scope, sequencing, risk and business value.
• Collaboration with solution architecture - Partner with the Solution Architect where a requirement introduces significant architectural, integration, security, platform or enterprise-system implications. Ensure architectural constraints and decisions affecting scope or product behavior are reflected in backlog items and acceptance criteria. Make architectural dependencies visible in sequencing and planning. Ensure architectural enablers and dependencies are represented transparently in the Product Backlog.
• Production support and service management - Participate in triage of incidents and change requests where product or requirement clarification is required. Help distinguish defects from new or changed business requirements. Route enhancements and feature requests into the Product Backlog for Business
• Product Owner prioritization - Ensure root-cause findings that require product or technical changes are converted into clear backlog items. Support the integrated build-and-run operating model and maintain visibility of the impact production support has on planned delivery. Work with the team where ServiceNow tickets need to be connected to backlog items or product decisions.
• Scaling, compliance and AI-enabled products - Ensure requirements for new capabilities consider affiliate-scale operation, localization, release impact and operational readiness. Work with the Solution Architect to make broader platform, integration and environment dependencies visible in the Product Backlog. Translate applicable validation, compliance and EU AI Act requirements into backlog requirements and acceptance criteria in partnership with the appropriate compliance, AI and architecture authorities. Ensure automation and AI initiatives have clearly defined expected outcomes and measurable baselines so their impact can be evaluated.

The Technical Product Owner works closely with:

• Business Product Owner: accountable for product value, business priorities, stakeholder relationships and Product Backlog ordering.
• AI Tech Lead: specialist technical and architectural authority for AI, machine learning, LLM, agentic AI and data science.
• Solution Architect: technical authority for end-to-end solution architecture, integration and overall architectural coherence.
• Scrum Master: accountable for Scrum effectiveness, facilitation, impediment removal and continuous improvement of the delivery system.
• Software engineers and data scientists: accountable for estimation, implementation, testing and operation of the solution.
• Client architecture, security, validation, data and compliance stakeholders: consulted where relevant constraints affect the product.
