Job summary

OANDA is seeking a Team Lead for our backend team to drive C++ development of trading and risk management services.

You will mentor engineers, deliver robust back-end systems on Linux, and align technical outcomes with business goals while contributing code and managing releases in a fast-paced FinTech environment.

Qualifications

• University degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Desire to lead and coach a team with continuous learning.
• Strong hands-on development experience with modern C++.
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, multithreading, and concurrency.
• Familiarity with databases, REST microservices, and software design patterns.
• Experience with CI/CD, deployment automation, and clean, documented code.
• Basic project management and team coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Guide, mentor, and empower a team of developers while contributing to hands-on technical execution.
• Plan sprints, track deliverables, and shepherd releases through CI/CD pipelines.

How do we work?

We’re looking for a Team Lead with strong C++ application development experience and a passion for leading people. You’ll join the OANDA engineering team that owns the backend of our renowned trading platform, used globally to analyze currency markets and trade forex and CFDs. Your leadership and technical contributions will directly impact thousands of customers trading billions of dollars daily.

The Backend Team leverages modern C++ and Python to build high-performing, reliable solutions and robust in-house risk management systems.

As our Team Lead, you will:

• Guide, mentor, and empower a team of developers while contributing to hands-on technical execution.
• Apply basic project management skills to plan sprints, track deliverables, and shepherd releases through CI/CD pipelines.
• Research, design, test, deploy, and maintain backend trading and risk management services in a Linux environment.
• Collaborate with business and technical leadership to translate business requirements into actionable team goals.
• Participate in a monthly on-call support rotation.

What skillset do you need to be successful in this role?

• University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• A strong desire to lead and coach a team, combined with continuous learning habits.
• Adaptability to manage shifting priorities and project scopes effectively.
• Solid hands-on development experience with modern C++
• Knowledgeable in data structures, algorithms, multithreading, and concurrency.
• Familiarity with databases, REST microservices, and software design patterns.
• Experience with CI/CD, deployment automation, and writing clean, documented code.
• Basic project management and team coordination skills.

Nice to have:

• Development experience with Python
• Experience with Kafka (or similar event driven technology)
• GCP / GKE, Terraform, Ansible
