Job summary

Okta is hiring an independent Staff Software Engineer to balance technical excellence with a disciplined SDLC. You will design and deliver AI-powered customer experiences that integrate Salesforce and AWS, while leading architecture decisions and mentoring engineers.

With 8+ years in software engineering, you will drive scalable, secure, production-ready solutions, leveraging Bedrock, LangChain, and modern LLM practices in a Scrum environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with customer-facing platforms or CRM-driven systems.
• Strong backend and application development skills in Python or Java and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience with AWS cloud-native solutions and services like Lambda, S3, API Gateway, CloudWatch.
• Experience integrating LLMs and generative AI into production apps (Bedrock/LangChain or similar).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, source control workflows, and automated deployments (GitHub/Gearset).
• Ability to lead architecture discussions and influence technical strategy across teams.
• Demonstrated mentoring of engineers and improving engineering practices.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration in Agile/Scrum.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve intelligent customer experience solutions integrating Salesforce CRM with AWS services and generative AI.
• Architect and develop AI-powered experiences using Bedrock, LangChain, and LLM integration patterns.
• Build robust backend services and integrations to support customer workflows including LLM orchestration and RAG pipelines.
• Lead design and delivery of complex customer experience initiatives from technical discovery to production deployment.
• Develop and refine prompt engineering strategies and AI interaction patterns for quality and safety.
• Design and implement resilient APIs, event-driven integrations connecting Salesforce, AWS, and external apps.
• Drive CI/CD excellence with GitHub, Gearset, and deployment automation for reliable releases.
• Champion observability and production support for enterprise-grade reliability and performance.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews and design reviews.
• Lead technical decisions across architecture, AI tooling, security, and platform evolution.
• Collaborate with product, design, security, data, and infra teams to ensure secure, reliable solutions.
• Contribute effectively in Scrum-based Agile environments using Jira and Confluence.
