Job summary

Walrus Foundation is seeking a Staff Product Designer to define and own the product experience for Walrus. You’ll partner with product and engineering from discovery through implementation, shaping problems, prototyping, and testing potential solutions so developers can work with dense data and complex workflows.

Qualifications

• 8-10 years of product design experience, with ownership of complex technical products.
• Portfolio demonstrating ownership of shipped developer tools or infrastructure products.
• Ability to simplify technically sophisticated workflows while preserving critical information.
• Strong interaction-design skills for data-heavy interfaces and complex states.
• Experience identifying and framing product problems, not just executing predefined tasks.
• Track record influencing product strategy and roadmap through design.
• Strong qualitative research instincts and usability testing experience.
• Experience evolving design systems and reusable patterns.
• Strong partnership with engineering and involvement through implementation and QA.
• Excellent communication and constructive disagreement with senior partners.
• Comfort operating with autonomy in a rapidly evolving technical environment.

Responsibilities

• Own the Walrus product experience across surfaces and workflows.
• Lead discovery with product and engineering to frame problems and evidence.
• Bring developers into the design process with interviews and usability tests.
• Design complex technical workflows with data, state, and actions.
• Influence product direction with strong viewpoints and critique assumptions.
• Build and maintain Walrus's design system and reusable patterns.
• Benchmark the market to inform patterns and avoid reinventing problems.
• Stay close through implementation, review ships, and incorporate feedback.
• Raise the design bar and establish high standards as the org grows.
