Job summary

Cisco Systems, Inc. is seeking a Senior Performance Engineer to join the PerfOpt team to optimize Splunk customer experiences at scale. You will lead performance work from hypothesis through instrumentation to measurable customer impact across distributed components.

You will design petabyte-scale memory, concurrency, and I/O solutions, instrument production with telemetry and profiling, and mentor peers while driving performance-focused architecture decisions across partner teams.

Qualifications

• Advanced C++ in production with memory management and allocators.
• Depth in CPU/memory profiling and flamegraph analysis (perf, eBPF, VTune).
• Architectures with latency optimization in distributed systems.
• Docker and Kubernetes performance in containerized environments.
• Strong Python for tooling, telemetry pipelines, and analysis.
• Linux performance internals: scheduler, memory, filesystems, I/O.

Responsibilities

• Lead performance work from hypothesis through instrumentation to measurable customer impact across teams.
• Design petabyte-scale components for memory, concurrency, I/O, and tail latency.
• Institute profiling, benchmarks, and CI gates to identify performance issues.
• Instrument production with telemetry, eBPF, and continuous profiling to measure real workloads.
• Quantify options, costs, risks, and present evidence-based recommendations to partners.
• Mentor peers and junior engineers on technical leadership and ownership.
• Plan performance work, estimate effort, and lead postmortems to prevent regressions.
