Job summary

Cisco Systems, Inc. is seeking a Senior Performance Engineer to lead end-to-end performance initiatives for a petabyte-scale, distributed system. You will design instrumentation, drive cross-team collaboration, and deliver measurable gains in latency and throughput.

The role emphasizes architecture, observability, and mentorship in a flexible hybrid work model across a global data platform.

Qualifications

• Expert-level C++ in production systems with memory management and allocators.
• Deep performance engineering across profiling, benchmarking and modelling.
• Architect and optimize distributed, large-scale systems for latency and scale.
• Experience with containerized environments and performance in Kubernetes/Docker.
• Strong Python for tooling, telemetry pipelines, and data analysis.
• Proficiency with Linux internals (scheduler, memory, I/O).
• Git and CI automation for builds, tests, benchmarks, and releases.

Responsibilities

• Lead performance domain end-to-end through hypothesis, instrumentation, and measurable gains.
• Architect for scale; redesign subsystems for petabyte-scale data and low tail latency.
• Own performance methodology: profiling, flame graphs, lock analysis, benchmarking.
• Introduce observability with new telemetry and production profiling.
• Enable leadership decisions with quantified trade-offs and risk analysis.
• Deliver fast, reusable AI-assisted workflows to accelerate analysis.
• Lead and mentor senior and staff engineers across teams.
