Job summary

Zendesk seeks a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to enhance our AI-powered search platform at scale. You will collaborate with PMs, ML scientists, and engineers to define features and strategies, mentoring teammates while ensuring reliability of deployed services.

You will work with Python, Ruby, and ML tools on AWS, Elasticsearch, Kafka, and Kubernetes in a hybrid environment that supports remote work part of the week. This role offers growth and impact across billions of conversations.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Python or Ruby and testing frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of server-side architecture and design patterns.
• Collaborative and self-motivated with a willingness to learn.
• Experience building scalable and reliable software systems.
• Ability to form hypotheses and run experiments to guide engineering decisions.

Responsibilities

• Delivering AI-powered capabilities to our customers at Zendesk scale using latest LLM technologies.
• Working closely with Product Management, ML Scientists and fellow Engineers to define feature scope and implementation strategies, using ML technology.
• Mentoring junior team members and pairing with more experienced colleagues to foster mutual learning.
• Supporting our deployed services to ensure a high level of stability and reliability.
• Writing clean and maintainable code to meet the team’s delivery commitments.
• Contributing to discussions regarding technical design and best practices.
