Job summary

Productboard is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to own the architectural layer that makes our AI-native product engineering real. You will work with engineers, PMs, and designers to ship AI-first features end-to-end, defining technical direction and shaping what gets built.

You will implement robust workflows, evaluation systems, and reliable agentic processes. You will build with Python, Kotlin, and Java, design scalable backend services, and mentor teams to move from idea to validated

Qualifications

• 6-10+ years of production software engineering experience.
• Strong backend skills in Python, Kotlin, or Java with experience evolving service-level logic and infrastructure.
• Hands-on LLM experience in real products: prompt design, context management, evaluation, trade-offs awareness.
• Comfort with distributed systems and event-driven architectures (queues, async processing, service-to-service).
• Daily use of AI coding tools as part of workflow, refining prompts and improving reliability.
• Former founding engineer or founder mindset; capable of building agentic systems in production.

Responsibilities
