Job summary

Kong Global Inc. seeks a Senior Technical Writer to craft and maintain API documentation, developer guides, and release notes. You will work closely with product managers and engineers to ensure accuracy, participate in planning, and own documentation strategy for a product area.

Ideal candidates will have 3+ years in software documentation, strong API and CLI experience, and a product-minded approach to documenting complex features and workflows.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in technical writing in a software environment.
• Experience with API documentation and developer guides.
• Understanding of API testing and related tools.
• Proficiency with Command Line Interface (CLI).
• Interest or experience in AI.
• Solid experience with Git for version control and collaboration.
• Strong research and synthesis of technical information.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with documentation maintenance and reviews.
• Experience treating a documentation area like a product.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.

Responsibilities

• Developing, writing, and editing API docs, developer guides, reference docs, and release notes.
• Collaborating with product managers, engineers, and other docs writers to ensure completeness.
• Conducting thorough research with SMEs to gather technical information.
• Testing to validate documentation content and accuracy.
• Using CLI tools to test and document software features.
• Maintaining and updating existing documentation, deprecating outdated content.
• Implementing documentation processes and version control using Git.
• Reviewing docs for technical accuracy and adherence to guidelines.
• Contributing to project planning and management for documentation deliverables.
• Participating in product management discussions to align docs with strategy.
• Owning documentation strategy for a product area and prioritizing work by user impact.
• Partnering with product and field teams to identify gaps and propose content investments.
