Job summary

Kong is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to create and maintain high quality API documentation, developer guides, references, and release notes for multiple audiences. You will work with product managers and engineers to ensure documentation is accurate and complete.

You will test documentation content with CLI tools, manage content with Git, and drive documentation strategy for a product area, prioritizing content based on user impact and adoption.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in technical writing within a software development environment.
• Experience with API documentation and developer guides.
• Understanding of API testing and experience with relevant tools.
• Proficiency with Command Line Interface (CLI).
• Experience with Git for version control and collaboration.
• Interest in AI and learning new documentation processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Develop, write, and edit high-quality technical documentation, including API docs, developer guides, reference documentation, and release notes.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other docs writers to gather information and ensure accuracy.
• Conduct thorough research to gather technical information from subject matter experts and product specs.
• Test documentation content to validate accuracy.
• Utilize CLI tools to test and document software features.
• Maintain and update existing documentation, including deprecation of outdated content.
• Implement and improve documentation processes and version control using Git.
• Review docs for technical accuracy and adherence to guidelines.
• Contribute to project planning and management for documentation deliverables.
• Own documentation strategy for a product area and prioritize content work by user impact.
