Job summary

Housecall Pro seeks a Senior Staff Software Engineer in Poland to lead architecture across multiple squads and guide the transition from a monolith to a distributed, event-driven platform. You will mentor engineers, shape technical direction, and work with product leadership to balance performance and reliability for home-service pros.

The role emphasizes cross-team collaboration, scalable design, and strategic refactorings, with CET hours to support the Poland-based team.

Qualifications

• 9+ years designing, building, and operating complex production systems.
• Deep experience with backend frameworks (Ruby on Rails, Django, Spring Boot).
• Proficient in multiple languages: JavaScript, Python, Go, Java, Node.js.
• Cloud platforms (AWS), containers, and serverless architectures.
• Proven success applying DDD across teams and domains.
• Experience with event-driven systems and distributed messaging (Kafka, SQS).
• CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab) and automated testing strategies.
• API design and management (REST/GraphQL) and observability expertise.

Responsibilities

• Act as Engineering Director's technical eyes across squads; raise risks and provide findings.
• Drive performance, quality, and responsiveness of core domain systems.
• Collaborate to design high-performance, scalable architecture.
• Define subsystem boundaries and placement of functionality.
• Maintain coding standards and lead architectural reviews.
• Lead architectural refactors to improve scalability and maintainability.
• Guide automated testing across architectural layers.
• Maintain CI/CD environments and improve deployment processes.
• Mentor engineers and elevate domain knowledge.
• Lead cross-squad initiatives and align with company-wide direction.
