BNY is seeking a Senior Specialist, Accounting to join the EB Controllers team in Wroclaw on a hybrid basis. The role focuses on VAT declarations, tax compliance, and coordination with offshore locations to deliver accurate financial reporting.

You will work with a European finance team, support month-end close, and engage in tax standardization and audits, leveraging Oracle and other ERP tools to ensure high-quality results.

Qualifications

Experience with VAT declarations across European locations.
Strong tax and accounting knowledge, preferably in international groups.
Experience with general ledger systems and ERP reporting tools (Oracle).

Responsibilities

Prepare and review VAT declarations and ensure timely filings.
Supervise offshore VAT work to maintain quality and compliance.

We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Specialist, Accounting to join our EB Controllers team. This role is located in Wroclaw, Poland –HYBRID.

Department / Team Overview - EB Controllers Team

The role is currently located within the Polish Branch Controllers team to support the accounting and controlling activities of the EB Controllers. The EB Controllers team is responsible for the Legal Entity Finance functions of accounting and reporting for the BNYM EB legal entities.
The EB Finance team consists of over 40 members across Europe with support from a Shared Service Center located in Poland.
The EB Controllers team utilizes the global processes and global footprint of BNY Finance that involves significant outsourcing of production activities to offshore service locations mainly located in US, UK & India.
The members of EB Controllers team operate in a cooperative and supportive manner to ensure that all activities are completed accurately and on time. Cross training and opportunities for enlarging experience allow for professional development across the full range of activities performed by the Finance team.
The EB Controllers team seeks out and executes opportunities for continuous improvement to ensure that support is provided to its internal clients that allows them to outperform overtime.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

Prepare and review VAT declarations, ensuring timely and accurate filings with cooperation with external tax advisor
Supervise and validate VAT-related work prepared by the offshore team to maintain high-quality standards and compliance.
Establish and update the pro-rata recovery rate on a yearly basis, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
Engage in the tax standardization processes across all EB entities
Actively participate in the ongoing automation of tax compliance processes, identifying opportunities for increased efficiency and accuracy.
Assist in the preparation and review of other tax declarations, including WHT, Local taxes
Assist in tax audits, providing necessary documentation and responses to tax authorities.
Ensure overall tax compliance within the finance function and provide necessary tax analysis for finance management.
Assist in the month-end close process, ensuring deadlines are achieved and the financial accounts are closed in a timely and accurate manner.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

Personal Qualities And Experience:

Motivated individual with an interest in working in the Finance function of a large organization who is willing to invest personally in being part of a high performing team.
Strong tax and accounting knowledge and experience that has preferably been gained within a financial institution that is part of an international group (4-6 years).
A fast learner and effective problem solver who can work without constant supervision and takes responsibility for outcomes.
Deadline driven, ability to effectively manage time to work under pressure and maintain attention to detail. A positive team player with a mind-set that supports colleagues both within and outside of Finance.
Flexible in adapting to change with a positive commitment to continuous improvement.
Comfortable providing oversight over activities performed in offshore locations.
A clear and effective communicator, an excellent command of English is essential .

Technical Skills:

Part or Newly Qualified accountant / Tax certifications or have gained an equivalent level through relevant experience.
Proven track record with VAT declarations in different European locations
Experience in preparation of CIT returns could be an advantage
Experience working with general ledger systems, preferably Oracle or similar reporting tools
Knowledge of different GAAP standards (US GAAP, IFRS, BE GAAP,) and regulatory reporting in Banking or Finance could be an advantage
Excellent Excel skills, AI tools experience
