Job summary

Starburst is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Control Plane, to help unify the control planes of SEP and Starburst Galaxy. You will design and build backend services and cloud infrastructure that run in both SaaS and on-prem deployments across AWS, Azure, and GCP.

You will own reliability, scalability, and efficiency of APIs, contribute to code reviews, and collaborate with a globally distributed team while maintaining focused work.

Qualifications

• Extensive software development experience with Java.
• Cloud infrastructure experience across at least one major cloud provider.
• Experience building and operating backend services — APIs and lifecycle management.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools and agents in engineering.
• Strong software engineering practices and maintainable code.
• Ability to work in a high-performing, globally distributed team.
• High ownership and proactive mindset.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the Unified Control Plane: deliver capabilities for SaaS and self-managed deployments.
• Own the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of the services you build—APIs, cluster lifecycle, and tooling.
• Build for two operating models across AWS, Azure, and GCP as well as on-premise.
• Provide thoughtful review of peers' PRs and design proposals.
• Continuously improve engineering processes, tests, and systems.
• Collaborate with globally distributed teams and other groups.
• Maintain focus with minimal meetings and clear written communication.
• Provide exceptional customer support for internal and external customers.
