Job summary

Redpanda Data in Warsaw is seeking a senior software engineer to own Redpanda Cloud's billing and payments services end-to-end. You will lead usage-based billing via Metronome and credit-card management through Stripe, stabilising the current implementation and driving the roadmap for metering, invoicing and payments as we expand products.

Responsibilities

• Own the billing and payments end-to-end, design, build, operate and evolve the architecture.
• Build and operate metering, billing and payment workflows with high reliability and auditability.
• Adopt and advance existing Metronome-and-Stripe-based systems to meet future needs.
• Translate product requirements into technical designs and shipped workstreams.
• Collaborate with finance, product and engineering on roadmap and invoicing accuracy.
• Maintain strong security and privacy of PII and participate in on-call when ramped.

About The Role

We're looking for an experienced senior software engineer to drive Redpanda Cloud's billing and payments services and workflows end-to-end, as part of a new Warsaw-based team. You'll take ownership of usage-based billing via Metronome, and credit-card management via Stripe, coming up to speed with our current implementation, stabilising it, and then driving the roadmap to keep metering, invoicing, and payments accurate, transparent, and trustworthy as we expand our products and services with the Agentic Data Plane. You'll partner closely with finance, product, and the wider engineering team across the wider customer‑experience journey.

This is a hybrid role based in our Warsaw office.

The Team

You'll Join a Newly-formed Small, Cross-functional Cloud Team Based In Our New Warsaw Office That Owns The Services Powering The Customer-facing Journeys At The Heart Of Redpanda Cloud. This Is How Every Customer Registers, Manages Their Account, And Pays For What They Use. The Team Owns These Critical Workstreams

• Register / Sign-up / Sign-in
• Account management
• Usage-based billing (UBB) via Metronome
• Credit-card management for self-service customers via Stripe
• Cloud marketplace integrations (AWS, GCP, and Azure with more to come) for UBB, public offers, and private offers

The team is adopting ownership of these areas from the teams that built them, will come up to speed on what we have today, and then drive a product and technical roadmap that gives our customers confidence whenever they interact with our services. It's cross-functional and works closely with design, product, and finance. We hire for the skill mix across the team, not every skill in every person.

You Will

• Own the technical implementation of UBB (using Metronome) and payments (using Stripe) end-to-end, design, building, operating, and evolving the architecture and services
• Build and operate correctness-critical metering, billing, and payment workflows with strong idempotency, reconciliation, and auditability
• Adopt the existing metering, billing, and payments systems from other teams, learn them deeply, and drive them forward to meet future requirements
• Turn product and commercial requirements into clear technical designs and shipped workstreams
• Partner with finance and customer success teams on invoicing accuracy, reconciliation, and revenue correctness, and with product and engineering teams on the technical roadmap
• Uphold high standards for security and privacy of PII
• Participate in on-call once you’ve ramped up

You Have

• Solid software engineering fundamentals and a track record of owning development of features and components and delivering them reliably
• Experience developing, operating, and supporting large scale distributed systems
• Working backend proficiency in Go (or a comparable systems language and are willing to ramp up) and a foundation in public cloud infrastructure (at least one of AWS/Azure/GCP)
• Frontend familiarity - while not a specialist, you are comfortable maintaining and adapting customer-facing web UIs (React / TypeScript or similar) with support from UX designers and the latest AI tools
• Production experience using AI-assisted software development workflows (e.g. Claude Code, Codex, etc) to accelerate prototyping, delivery, and operations
• Good written and verbal communication in English and can work effectively in a globally distributed, async environment, collaborating with product management, design, finance, and customer-facing stakeholders

Strong Plus

• Cloud marketplace integration experience (AWS, GCP, and/or Azure)
• Frontend depth (React / TypeScript) for customer-facing UIs
• Experience developing or owning signup and login flows and identity provider integration
• Exposure to billing and payment services like Metronome and Stripe

Nice To Have

• Experience building or operating large-scale production SaaS platforms
• Experience with streaming platforms as a user or provider
