Job summary

CloudFerro is building and operating cloud platforms for Europe's space industry, enabling researchers to store and analyse petabytes of Earth observation data. We seek a Senior Software Engineer who will shape IAM services, drive architectural decisions, and contribute hands-on development across our cloud environments.

You will design, implement and evolve backend components, collaborate with product teams, and maintain high engineering standards while delivering secure, scalable solutions

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with hands-on architecture design.
• Proficiency in Python and production-grade backend services.
• Experience designing distributed systems and microservice architectures.
• Knowledge of identity and authentication standards: OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML 2.0, JWT.
• Experience designing and integrating REST APIs.
• Good knowledge of Linux, Kubernetes and cloud environments.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or relational databases.
• Ability to translate requirements into well-designed technical solutions.
• Strong ownership and ability to justify trade-offs and production readiness.
• English proficiency for technical collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve the architecture of IAM services.
• Develop backend components for authentication, authorisation, identity management and access control; design APIs and integrations with other CloudFerro platform parts.
• Design solutions for multi-tenant environments and systems at scale.
• Collaborate with Product Manager to translate business needs into technical solutions.

Senior Software Engineer

The role:

We are looking for someone who combines strong software engineering skills with an architectural mindset and genuinely enjoys having an impact on both what we build and how we build it.

The right person for this role can design a solution, discuss architectural trade-offs, build a proof of concept and independently implement key parts of the system - while still enjoying hands-on development and staying close to the technology.

You will have a direct influence on the architecture and evolution of services responsible for Identity & Access Management across CloudFerro's cloud environments.

Although CloudFerro has around 300 employees, our team operates in many ways like a startup within a larger organisation. There is a lot happening, priorities evolve, and requirements do not always arrive as a complete specification.

We value independence, initiative and pragmatic problem-solving. We are looking for someone who knows how to ask the right questions, understand the real problem behind a requirement, propose a sensible solution and take it all the way to production - without unnecessary bureaucracy.

What will be your tasks?

• Designing and evolving the architecture of our IAM services.
• Developing backend components responsible for authentication, authorisation, identity management and access control. Designing APIs and integrations between IAM services and other parts of the CloudFerro platform.
• Designing solutions for multi-tenant environments and systems operating at scale.
• Working closely with the Product Manager to translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
• Building prototypes and proofs of concept for new ideas and technologies.
• Extending existing codebases and implementing new services and components.
• Making architectural decisions with security, scalability, reliability and maintainability in mind.
• Maintaining high engineering standards through code reviews, automated testing, refactoring and solid software development practices.
• Diagnosing complex issues at the intersection of applications, IAM and cloud infrastructure.
• Collaborating with other technical teams across the organisation.
• Creating and evolving technical documentation and architectural standards.

We are looking for developers who:

• At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience, including hands-on experience designing system architecture.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience building production-grade backend services.
• Experience designing distributed systems and microservice architectures.
• Practical knowledge of identity and authentication standards and protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML 2.0 and JWT.
• Experience designing and integrating REST APIs.
• Good knowledge of Linux, Kubernetes and cloud environments.
• Experience working with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.
• The ability to analyse requirements and translate them into well-designed technical solutions.
• The ability to make informed architectural decisions and clearly explain the trade-offs behind them.
• A strong sense of ownership - from initial idea and technical design through implementation and production operation.
• English proficiency that allows you to work comfortably with technical documentation and collaborate in an international environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with other programming languages such as Java or Go.
• Familiarity with AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Knowledge of RBAC, ABAC, policy engines and fine-grained authorisation models.
• Experience with MFA, SSO, service accounts, token management and secrets management.
• Familiarity with RabbitMQ, Redis and Prometheus/Grafana.
• Experience designing IAM solutions for multi-cloud environments or large SaaS, PaaS or IaaS platforms.
• Practical knowledge of application security and cloud security.
• Experience with OpenStack, particularly Keystone.
