LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group) is a global financial markets infrastructure and data provider that supports financial stability and economic growth. The role described below is part of its Technology Services division.
Role Summary
We are looking for a Platform Engineer / Solution Architect to help shape and evolve our enterprise API Management Platform, a strategic capability that enables teams across the organisation to design, publish, discover, and consume APIs efficiently and securely. This platform‑as‑a‑product role focuses on building scalable, self‑service capabilities, improving developer experience, and driving consistency across a federated technology landscape.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design and evolve the architecture of the API Management Platform, ensuring scalability, resilience, security, and ease of adoption.
- Drive the strategic evolution of core platform capabilities, including API Gateway, API Management, API Discovery, and Developer Experience services.
- Define, implement, and promote reusable patterns, standards, and best practices for API exposure, governance, and lifecycle management.
- Own and continuously improve runtime capabilities such as authentication, authorisation, traffic management, rate limiting, policy enforcement, transformation, and observability.
- Build and enhance self‑service capabilities that enable API producers and consumers to onboard, develop, and integrate with minimal manual support.
- Work closely with product, design, and engineering teams to improve platform usability, adoption, and overall developer experience.
- Collaborate with engineering teams across the organisation to understand requirements, remove friction points, and drive platform consistency at scale.
- Contribute to long‑term platform ownership by simplifying architecture, reducing technical debt, and improving operational efficiency.
- Establish and promote clear platform standards, ensuring governance and controls are embedded without reducing developer productivity.
- Support and evolve API lifecycle tooling, including design, publishing, documentation, sandbox environments, and discovery capabilities.
- Leverage AI‑assisted engineering tools to improve development efficiency, platform automation, testing, and operational excellence.
- Monitor platform health and usage metrics, using data and insights to continuously improve platform performance and customer satisfaction.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor, contributing architectural guidance and helping teams make informed technology decisions.
What You’ll Bring
Experience designing, building, or operating internal platforms, shared services, or enterprise infrastructure capabilities.
Must have
- Strong understanding of API management concepts, including API gateways, traffic management, service‑to‑service communication, and lifecycle management.
- Knowledge of authentication and security patterns, including OAuth, OpenID Connect, API security controls, and access management.
- Experience with distributed systems and cloud‑native architectures.
- Ability to design solutions that balance scalability, maintainability, operational efficiency, and developer experience.
- Experience defining technical standards, reusable patterns, and governance approaches that enable consistency across multiple teams.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity, assess trade‑offs, and make pragmatic architectural decisions.
- Demonstrated ownership attitude with the ability to lead initiatives and drive improvements in complex environments.
- Experience collaborating effectively with engineers, architects, product managers, and collaborators across organisational boundaries.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Experience using AI‑enabled development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar technologies to enhance engineering productivity while maintaining quality and governance.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience with Kong, Apigee, AWS API Gateway, Azure API Management, or similar API management platforms.
- Experience with OpenAPI specifications and contract‑first API design approaches.
- Exposure to Platform Engineering practices, including Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and self‑service tooling.
- Experience working within federated, multi‑team, or enterprise‑scale technology organisations.
- Strong interest in Developer Experience (DX), platform adoption, and internal product design.
- Knowledge of observability tooling, monitoring frameworks, and operational excellence practices.
Personal Attributes
- Systems thinker with a passion for building platforms that enable others to succeed.
- Curious, adaptable, and comfortable working with evolving technologies and priorities.
- Collaborative and inclusive, with a strong focus on partnership.
- Proactive and with a continuous improvement approach.
- Passionate about simplifying complexity and delivering scalable solutions that create lasting impact.
