Job summary

Brown Brothers Harriman in Kraków is seeking a Senior Operational Risk Advisor to join our Enterprise Risk Management team. You will identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate operational risks across Investor Services, with exposure to global functions.

The role involves partnering with product leaders, promoting risk awareness, conducting risk & control reviews, and supporting initiatives across compliance and internal audit. A strong communication skillset in English and Polish is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in the funds industry.
  • Experience in risk management or operational activities of Fund Accounting / Alternative Funds or SOC1 controls assurance is a distinct advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a warning signal to management to ensure activities stay within BBH’s risk appetite.
  • Support product division leaders in identifying, measuring, managing and monitoring risk within InServ.
  • Promote risk awareness through formal and informal training and awareness initiatives.
  • Participate in forums to assess products and services, define risks, and document residual risks.
  • Drive transparency by identifying trends, weaknesses, and risk and supporting sustainable solutions.
  • Perform and communicate targeted risk & control reviews of processes and workflows.
  • Monitor corrective action plans, analyze trends and root causes of findings and events.
  • Leverage risk management tools (FRED, RCSA) to analyze risk data.
  • Provide support on best practices for Investor Services initiatives.

Senior Operational Risk Advisor

Join us as a Senior Operational Risk Advisor within our Enterprise Risk Management Function. Brown Brothers Harriman is currently recruiting an Investor Services Senior Risk Advisor, working within the Enterprise Risk Management team that supports our Investor Services division of BBH. The successful candidate will be responsible for proactive identification, assessment, monitoring, measurement, and mitigation of operational risks. As a risk & control advisor you will provide analysis, advice and support the management in understanding & controlling their risk profile.

This role will provide the right candidate with an opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of business functions locally and globally, including other control functions such as Internal Audit, Legal and Compliance, and make an impact within a critical and highly visible global firm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a warning signal to management in relation to business activities to ensure they remain in line with BBH’s stated risk appetite.
  • Support product division leaders in their proactive identification, measurement, management and monitoring of risk within the InServ line of business.
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness, transparency and escalation through formal and informal training and awareness initiatives.
  • Participate in forums designed to assess products and services to ensure all identified risks have been appropriately defined, adequate mitigating controls have been implemented, and all residual risks have been acknowledged and documented.
  • Drive risk transparency by identifying, assessing and escalating trends, control weaknesses and risk and support the development of sustainable solutions for the management of risk.
  • Actively seek to perform and communicate targeted risk & control reviews of operational processes and workflows.
  • Monitor/Track corrective action plans, analyze trends and assess root causes of audit/regulatory findings, risk and control self-assessment gaps and risk events.
  • Leverage existing risk management tools, such as the Firmwide Risk Event Database (FRED) and Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) database to assist in analysis of risk and control data.
  • Provide support and insights on industry best practice to initiatives impacting Investor Services.
Qualifications / Experience / Skills
  • An analytical and enquiring mind.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in the funds industry.
  • Experience in risk management or operational activities of Fund Accounting / Alternative Funds or SOC1 controls assurance is a distinct advantage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Polish language including presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical skills pertaining to risk identification and solutioning.
  • Self-motivation with ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, while meeting deadlines.
