Job summary

Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch team and ensure shared platform functionalities are easy to use, performant, and secure.

You will contribute as a strong individual contributor, lead cross-team projects, and design scalable infrastructure, APIs, and tooling that empower other engineers to build and operate Elasticsearch across cloud, serverless, and on‑premise environments.

Qualifications

• Experience crafting APIs and reasoning through tradeoffs.
• Proficient in algorithms and data structures.
• Strong Java core skills and concurrency concepts.
• Experience with CI/CD systems (Buildkite, Argo CD, GitOps).
• Experience leading large scale projects across engineering teams.
• Able to own projects end-to-end with technical design and collaboration.
• Track record of using AI to accelerate development and debugging.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to large projects evolving the core infrastructure.
• Improve developer productivity by automation and integrating agentic apps into workflows.
• Design and implement horizontally scalable features and APIs in Elasticsearch.
• Solve performance or concurrency issues and propose solutions.
• Improve operation and observability of Elasticsearch cloud systems.
• Collaborate openly with the ES team, Elastic users, and open source projects.
• Support our support engineers with the harder problems.
• Own investigations end-to-end until stability is achieved.
