Job summary

SoftServe is seeking a Lead Java Engineer to design and build the back-end services behind business-critical applications for a European public sector client. You will take ownership of business logic, APIs, and data access—across Java and Spring services, SOAP and REST interfaces, Elasticsearch for search, and Kafka for event streaming—and act as the technical reference point for the team.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent and 15+ years in IT.
• 15+ years in software development with Java and related back-end tech.
• Strong Spring Framework experience and API design.
• Experience with SOAP and REST APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.
• Knowledge of Elasticsearch and Kafka in distributed systems.
• SQL databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL) and NoSQL stores.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain back-end services in Java/Spring.
• Own services including correctness, error handling, performance, and security.
• Provide technical leadership: code reviews, knowledge sharing, stakeholder collaboration.
• Design, secure, and document SOAP/REST services with OpenAPI/Swagger.
• Design relational/document data structures and write complex SQL.
• Implement search with Elasticsearch and monitor performance.
• Build event-driven integrations with Apache Kafka.
• Analyze complex issues using APM tools and keep docs up to date.
