Job summary

Magna International (Cosma Casting) seeks a seasoned engineer to design and optimize high‑pressure die casting tooling, cooling and vacuum systems. You will lead tooling improvements, ensure quality and cost targets, and collaborate with global teams across Europe and North America.

You will apply DFMEA/PFMEA, DFM, and GD&T to drive robust design, while managing supplier concepts and engineering tools to shorten lead times and improve yield. Fluency in English is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Several years of HPDC experience, preferably in automotive.
• Experience in die design, gating, runner, cooling, and tooling development.
• Strong HPDC fundamentals, tooling design principles, and defect prevention.
• Ability to assess manufacturability from drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD: AutoCAD, Siemens NX, Spinfire.
• Knowledge of MAGMASoft and/or Flow-3D (preferred).
• Strong GD&T understanding and DFMEA/PFMEA knowledge.
• Experience with DFM/VE and CI methodologies.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Hands-on manufacturing support, process optimization, and troubleshooting.
• English proficiency for collaboration across global teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize high-pressure die casting tooling to improve quality and yield.
• Develop die seal concepts and vacuum systems for performance and leakage reduction.
• Design and validate cooling systems for thermal balance and cycle efficiency.
• Drive tooling and process improvements across global casting operations.
• Enhance tooling performance via materials, coatings, and practices to extend die life.
• Establish global die/tooling standards to boost efficiency and cost-competitiveness.
• Analyze thermal imaging and tooling data to identify optimization opportunities.
• Conduct dimensional capability studies and implement corrective actions.
• Apply FMEA, risk assessment, and lessons learned for successful launches.
• Use DFM principles to assess feasibility and manufacturing readiness.
• Collaborate with simulation and manufacturing teams to correlate results.
• Lead GD&T interpretation and casting tolerance standardization.
• Engage with suppliers to evaluate tooling concepts, costs, and lead times.
• Develop engineering tools, CAD standards, and automation to reduce lead times.
• Support customers to finalize designs and manufacturing requirements.
• Maintain CAD data management for products, tooling, fixtures, and equipment.
• Share best practices across global casting operations.
• Provide technical support for casting processes, tooling, and value engineering.
