Job summary

HUBER+SUHNER Polatis is seeking a Senior Operational Buyer to ensure timely, cost-efficient availability of materials for production. You will lead day-to-day purchasing, manage supplier schedules and monitor ERP/MRP data to support continuous supply and inventory targets.

In this senior role, you will own escalations, drive process improvements and mentor colleagues, collaborating with Production, Planning, Engineering and Finance to optimise costs and service levels.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' experience in purchasing, materials planning, procurement or supply chain in a manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor's or higher in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration or related field.
• Strong knowledge of MRP and ERP systems.
• Experience in supplier relationship management and delivery performance improvement.
• Solid understanding of inventory management and material control processes.
• Commercial awareness and understanding of impact of shortages on performance.
• Knowledge of supply chain risk management and shortage recovery.
• Strong interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills.
• Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage conflicting priorities.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Ability to analyse data and make informed decisions.

Job description

Your tasks

The Senior Operational Buyer is responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective availability of materials and components required to meet production schedules, customer commitments and agreed inventory targets. The role manages day-to-day purchasing activities, supplier confirmations, material shortages, delivery risks and MRP data accuracy. Working closely with Production, Planning, Warehouse, Quality, Engineering, Finance and suppliers, the role supports production continuity, inventory optimisation and continuous improvement across the supply chain.

As a senior member of the team, the role is expected to take ownership of escalations, contribute to process improvements, support best practice within operational purchasing activities and act as a key point of contact for supplier performance and material availability issues.

Your profile

• Minimum 3 years' experience in a purchasing, materials planning, procurement or supply chain role within a manufacturing environment.


• Higher education qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration or related discipline preferred.


• Strong understanding of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and ERP systems.


• Experience of supplier relationship management and delivery performance improvement.


• Strong understanding of inventory management principles and material control processes.


• Commercial and financial awareness, with a clear understanding of the impact of material shortages on business performance, customer delivery and production efficiency.


• Knowledge of supply chain risk management and shortage recovery processes.


• Strong interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills.


• Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.


• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.


• Ability to work under pressure and manage conflicting priorities.
