Job summary

Payabl is expanding its engineering capabilities with a Senior Backend Developer to manage the current Perl-based payment gateway while designing a next-generation Python microservices platform. You will ensure high performance, reliability, and scalability in a live payments environment, collaborating across teams to migrate features and integrate external APIs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience in Python
• Experience with Perl production code and polyglot environments
• Strong API integration experience and understanding of webhooks and retry policies
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployments (AWS)
• Exposure to event-driven architectures (Kafka) and containerization

Responsibilities

• Maintain and extend the Perl-based payment gateway for stability and performance
• Design, develop, and maintain Python microservices for modernization
• Integrate third-party APIs and external payment services
• Collaborate in agile teams with clear English communication
• Contribute to code reviews and uphold high coding standards
• Work with DevOps on CI/CD, containers, and cloud deployments
