Job summary

RemoFirst is hiring a Senior Back-End Engineer to maintain and enhance Python-based systems while guiding the gradual migration to Java. You will own critical backend components, design robust APIs, and work with distributed systems in a fully remote, global team.

You will collaborate with international engineers, product, and design teams to deliver high-quality, scalable software. Strong ownership and communication are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• 5+ years backend development experience.
• Strong Python experience with Django, FastAPI, Flask or similar.
• Strong Java experience, preferably Spring Boot.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL); NoSQL exposure a plus.
• Familiarity with unit testing, integration testing, and TDD.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and modern development workflows.
• Understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience with AWS or cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services in Python and Java.
• Support and contribute to migration from Python-based services to Java, ensuring stability.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend integrations.
• Participate in system design and migration strategy discussions.
• Work with distributed systems and microservices.
• Integrate with third-party services and external APIs.
• Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code following best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Debug production issues and improve reliability and performance.
• Collaborate across time zones with cross-functional teams.
