Job summary

HSBC in Kraków is seeking a Software Engineer (Backend Java/API) to join the Messaging Delivery Platform team on a permanent basis. You will design and build distributed, secure backend services using Java/Spring Boot, deploy to Kubernetes, and integrate with AWS cloud.

Qualifications

Senior experience in Java and Spring Boot.
Experience building and running services on Kubernetes.
Practical experience with Cloud, particularly AWS.
Strong knowledge of API design standards including OpenAPI 3.0/Swagger, REST, JSON, and Microservices.
Experience with CI/CD toolchains including GitHub, Jira, Jenkins, Maven, and Groovy.
Knowledge of OAuth 2.0 authentication/authorisation, plus experience with Kong API Gateway.
Solid understanding of Agile testing discipline (e.g., TDD) and strong Agile/Scrum delivery experience.
Ability to learn new technologies and business domains quickly and apply them to real delivery challenges.

Responsibilities

Build high-quality applications/systems to agreed requirements, on time, and to Group/local standards.
Design and deliver distributed systems using modern stacks; quickly learn and apply new technologies.
Write efficient, secure, resilient, performant, and operable code that meets the definition of done and manages dependencies.
Perform unit testing and help establish/maintain appropriate automated test coverage.
Review and challenge code, design, and implementation to ensure top quality and alignment with HSBC/industry standards.
Maintain expert knowledge across relevant platforms; stay current with tools and technology trends.
Collaborate closely with Agile teams (engineering, QA, product, architecture, operations) and partner with stakeholders to translate requirements into solutions.
Drive innovation, strong problem-solving/decision-making, and accountability for control and compliance across engineering.
