Job summary

Afternow is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to join our Product Development team. You will design and implement scalable backend systems, APIs, and microservices using Java 21, Spring Boot 3.2+, and PostgreSQL, with a focus on clean architecture and DDD/EDA.

You’ll collaborate with frontend, QA, DevOps, product managers, and designers to deliver end-to-end modules. Remote-first; occasional LATAM travel may be required; professional English is mandatory, Spanish is a bonus.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development in a professional environment.
• Modern Java stack: Java 21, Spring Boot 3.2+, Hibernate.
• Knowledge of DDD and Event-Driven Architecture (EDA).
• AWS familiarity; backend with cloud environments.
• Fluent English required; Spanish an advantage for LATAM projects.

Responsibilities

• Backend development: write clean, testable Java code with Spring Boot.
• Design and maintain REST APIs and backend services.
• Build and manage microservices within distributed systems.
• Model domains with DDD principles and robust PostgreSQL schemas.
• Implement event-driven workflows using Kafka or similar tools.
• Collaborate with frontend, QA, DevOps, and product teams.
• Own modules from planning to delivery, including tests and release support.
