Kake, a remote-first company, is seeking a Senior Android Video Player Engineer to own live streaming playback on Android and Android TV. You will design, build, and optimize player frameworks and SDKs to deliver reliable, high-quality experiences across devices.

Join a global team of senior engineers, work with ExoPlayer customization, ABR logic, and ad integrations, while collaborating with cross-functional partners in a fully remote setup with US PST overlap.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of Android development experience.
• Deep expertise in live video playback on Android/Android TV.
• Proficient in ExoPlayer customization and performance optimization.
• Experience with DASH/HLS and ABR workflows.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize Android video player frameworks and SDKs for live streaming.
• Customize ExoPlayer components and ABR logic to improve playback.
• Troubleshoot live streaming issues, including buffering and latency.
• Work with dynamic manifests (MPD/M3U8) and adaptive bitrate logic.
• Integrate ad technologies (IMA, DAI, SSAI) within the player.
• Use QoE analytics to diagnose playback performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure playback quality.
• Contribute to best practices across streaming projects.
