Job summary

Hitachi Energy’s Research Center in Krakow is hiring a Research Scientist in Advanced Material Characterization, Application and Modeling. You will drive innovation in material characterization, testing and predictive modeling for high-voltage and energy applications, combining experimental methods with numerical modeling.

The role requires leadership in projects, collaboration across disciplines, and engagement with external partners to advance industrial applications of new materials.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience in material characterization, experimental testing, and applying material data in engineering or industrial contexts.
• Strong knowledge of numerical modeling (e.g., FEM), material behavior modeling, parameter identification, and model validation.
• Experience with multi-physics phenomena; Python, MATLAB, or AI/ML experience is an advantage.
• Fluent in English, written and spoken; collaboration with international teams is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to R&D projects focused on advanced material characterization, application, and predictive modeling.
• Develop and implement innovative experimental methods, including non-destructive testing, to assess material performance under realistic operating conditions.
• Identify and characterize critical material properties and translate findings into engineering data and insights.
• Build and validate numerical material models to support simulation-driven product development and engineering decisions.
• Collaborate with product development teams to enable the effective application of advanced materials in industrial products.
• Drive knowledge transfer and strengthen internal expertise in material characterization, qualification, and application methodologies.
• Explore emerging technologies, digital tools, and AI/ML approaches to enhance material modeling and prediction capabilities.
• Promote innovation through technical publications, patents, conference participation, and collaboration with external research partners.
