Job summary

GitLab is seeking a Staff Security Engineer to lead infrastructure security across our public cloud platforms and self-managed offerings. You will define technical direction, drive secure-by-design patterns, and mentor engineers.

You will partner with product, security, and engineering teams to implement AI-enhanced security tooling, perform threat modeling, and ensure compliance with industry standards. This remote, full-time role offers opportunities to influence security at scale and shape

Qualifications

• Security for cloud infrastructure and container orchestration
• Go, Python, Ruby production-grade security tooling
• IaC security, policy-as-code, automated compliance
• Hands-on AI in security workflows
• Leading multi-team technical initiatives with measurable outcomes
• Strong written and verbal communication to leadership
• Familiarity with FedRAMP, ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI-DSS
• Share GitLab values and operate accordingly

Responsibilities

• Set architectural patterns and foundational security automation across GitLab
• Lead security initiatives from problem framing to delivery with clear success criteria
• Conduct security reviews and threat modeling for complex infrastructure
• Shape AI-assisted security engineering patterns and adoption
• Translate architectural tradeoffs into actionable decisions for teams and leadership
• Plan, prioritize, and roadmap security work aligned with business objectives
• Mentor and develop engineers to raise the technical bar
• Ensure product security and dogfooding of GitLab infrastructure
