Job summary

Hard Rock Digital is seeking a Principal Backend Engineer for its Casino Technology Team. You will set the technical direction across multiple teams and own backend architecture, shaping features and scalable systems for millions of users.

You will mentor engineers, review code, and drive AI-assisted development across the organization, while partnering with product managers to influence roadmaps and ensure timely delivery. Remote Poland-focused role with a startup mindset.

Qualifications

• Min of 10+ years work experience.
• Strong hands-on AI-assisted development tooling in daily workflow.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Experience building for high-traffic environments and reliable scalability.
• Deep understanding of AWS and multi-region architectures.
• Proficiency with Java and Spring/SpringBoot.
• Experience with relational DBs (PostgreSQL, CockroachDB).
• Familiar with streaming (Kinesis/Kafka) and message queues (SQS, RabbitMQ).
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and microservices.
• Nice to have Casino or regulated industry exposure.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction and architecture across cross-team systems.
• Design and implement complex features and services.
• Mentor Staff/Senior Engineers and review code.
• Advise product and engineering leaders on roadmaps and architecture.
• Promote AI-assisted development practices and tooling across teams.
• Ensure quality, scope, and timely delivery of all deliverables.
• Collaborate with Architects and Engineering Managers to optimize systems.
