Job summary

Mapbox is seeking a skilled C++ Developer to build and maintain a cross-platform navigation engine that runs on iOS, Android, and embedded devices. You will enhance map-matching, route progression, and road-object matching with real-time data from millions of vehicles.

You will work with OpenLR, Valhalla, and AI-assisted workflows to deliver high-performance, memory-efficient code while communicating complex trade-offs in English.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of C++17 or newer with performance and memory constraints.
• Experience with cross-platform development (Linux/mobile/embedded).
• Strong English communication and ability to explain trade-offs.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain a unified C++17 library across iOS, Android, and embedded hardware.
• Analyze and improve map-matching and dead-reckoning algorithms using real-world data.
• Implement route-following features, including high-frequency progress reporting and deviation detection.
• Work on road object matching (OpenLR) and live traffic incidents to provide predictive insight.
• Design predictive caching for routing tiles and manage on-board resources.
• Integrate Valhalla routing engine to support offline routing and route refresh controllers.
• Leverage AI tools to improve design, development workflow, and code quality.
