Job summary
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer responsible for designing tooling and systems supporting WSI’s specialty repair services. The role includes solving complex technical issues, equipment and automation design, mock‑up testing, documentation, and technical support for field crews. The position also involves application engineering and new product development. In selected projects, the engineer may support field execution as a Field Engineer, assisting the Site Manager with technical delivery.
Your responsibilities?
- Perform machine design tasks and, when assigned, provide direction of tooling design teams for the completion of tooling system projects.
- Support Operations with Application Engineering design, modeling, and new product development.
- Provide mentoring and technical direction to less experienced engineering personnel.
- Provide support for planned and emergent customer scopes as needed for the completion of WSI repair scopes.
- Responsible for scope, schedule, and budget for assigned projects and tasks.
- Generate and maintain technical product documentation in accordance with WSI’s practices and procedures.
- Work in cooperation with the engineering team in the performance of their function.
Our expectations:
- 10+ years of experience in machine and equipment design and development
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electromechanical, Industrial Engineering or related field
- Hands‑on experience in designing precision tooling for automation and mechanical systems
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (CAD/CAE), including modeling and basic simulation
- Experience with PDM systems and engineering documentation standards
- Strong understanding of machine design principles (tolerancing, gear systems, strength of materials, motors, bearings, feedback systems)
- Familiarity with FEA (stress and fatigue analysis) is a strong advantage
- Knowledge of robotic welding or similar industrial equipment is a plus
- Basic understanding of motion control systems (hardware/software) is an advantage
- Experience with prototyping techniques and materials
- Strong communication skills with fluent English (written and spoken)
- Ability to work independently and handle complex engineering tasks with minimal supervision
Work Environment
General office and shop work environment. Occasional travel (<15%) to provide onsite project support, project meetings, walk‑downs, training, business development, and professional activities.
