Job summary

Sabre Kraków is seeking a Lead Software Systems Engineer to drive the technical direction of a mission-critical platform, combining hands-on coding with leadership across a team, including AI-assisted development practices.

You will mentor engineers, design scalable services, collaborate with product managers and architects, and operate with a strong focus on reliability, security and performance within Sabre's global distribution ecosystem and hybrid work model in Kraków.

Qualifications

• Lead backend engineer with Java and modern frameworks (Spring Boot, Apache Camel).
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools for problem-solving and code optimization.
• Hands-on with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Kubernetes (GKE) in production environments.
• Strong relational database and data modeling knowledge.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers, guide modernization, and shape architecture.
• Ability to validate AI outputs for correctness, security and maintainability.

Location: Kraków (hybrid work - 3 days per week in the office)

We are looking for a talented Lead Software Systems Engineer to join our global Profiles team, where innovation knows no borders. This team builds and operates the core platform that manages customer and partner profile data for Sabre's travel distribution ecosystem, powering critical integrations across agency and airline distribution channels. As a Lead Software Systems Engineer, you will drive the technical direction and continuous evolution of a mission-critical platform underpinning services across Sabre's business. You will combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership to deliver high-quality, scalable capabilities while guiding team practices in AI-assisted development. This role requires technical rigor, collaborative problem-solving, and a commitment to operational excellence.

What You'll Do

• Use AI-assisted development tools where appropriate to explore solutions, optimize code and accelerate engineering delivery without compromising security or maintainability.
• Lead the design, development and delivery of core platform capabilities while maintaining high standards of reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Mentor and guide other engineers, sharing effective, responsible AI-assisted development and review practices that improve team capability and software quality.
• Drive technical decision-making and help shape the long-term platform architecture and modernization roadmap.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, and cross-functional teams to translate business needs into robust technical solutions.
• Drive operational excellence across the platform, including proactive monitoring, incident response, and production support.

What You'll Bring

• Experience using AI-assisted development tools for problem-solving, design exploration, code optimization, and review.
• Proven experience as a lead backend engineer, with deep expertise in Java and modern backend frameworks including Spring Boot and Apache Camel.
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Kubernetes (GKE), including running and supporting production workloads.
• Solid knowledge of relational databases and data modeling.
• Demonstrated ability to lead platform modernization efforts, guide technical direction, and mentor engineers across a team.
• Ability to critically validate and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, security and maintainability while adapting to evolving AI capabilities.
