Job summary

Zyte is seeking an experienced Rust engineer to lead cross-platform peer runtime work across Windows, Android, and Linux, with future macOS support. You will bind Rust to native network stacks via FFI, ensuring robust, observable fleets on unmanaged hardware in a remote-first environment.

You will collaborate with senior engineers, tackle edge tasks like captcha solving and browser rendering, and contribute to architecture and deployment improvements while maintaining security and reliability

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production Rust experience.
• Cross-platform Rust expertise across Windows, macOS, or Android.
• Comfortable interfacing Rust with C/C++ libraries via FFI (JNI/NDK, Win32, POSIX).
• Deep understanding of TCP, TLS, and HTTP; able to analyze network traffic.
• Reliability-focused mindset; operates well on-call and monitors fleet health.
• Security-conscious approach when running code on third-party devices.
• Strong written communication suited for a distributed, remote-first team.
• Curiosity for reverse engineering protocols and complex systems.

Responsibilities

• Build cross-platform peer runtime (Windows, Android, Linux; macOS later).
• Port peer to Android with NDK/JNI, handling foreground services and battery/network quirks.
• Integrate Chromium network stack and HTTP clients into Rust libraries with safe contracts.
• Gather hardware/OS signals and map fingerprints to insights for teams.
• Create per-device metrics on uptime, bandwidth, and success rates for accountability.
• Expand edge capabilities to captcha solving and browser rendering while isolating peer.
• Share production responsibility: on-call rotation, post-mortems and deployments improvements.
• Raise the engineering bar: write RFDs and review architectures for cross-platform Rust at Zyte.
