GFT Poland is seeking a Lead Backend Consultant with AI/ML skills in Kraków for a hybrid role focusing on enterprise-scale Java microservices and AI-enabled development lifecycle. You will design, develop, and support secure, scalable services while working with architects, QA, SRE, and platform teams.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years of software engineering, strong Java/Python skills, deep knowledge of SQL databases, CI/CD, and GenAI practices. On-site 8 days/month as needed.

Qualifications

8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Strong Java microservices with Spring Boot and Python in enterprise-scale environments.
Experience with Oracle or PostgreSQL databases and API/contract testing.
Hands-on with CI/CD pipelines, Azure, Jenkins or GitLab, and modern testing tooling.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, integrate, and support Java microservices in a large enterprise transformation.
Contribute to solution design, integration patterns, and non-functional requirements.
Identify risks, dependencies, and blockers; ensure security and governance standards.
Lead design reviews, code reviews, and security reviews; perform robust testing.
Work with AI-enabled SDLC including GenAI tools, LLM usage, and RAG concepts.
Build production-ready services with observability and operational readiness.
Collaborate with architects, QA, SRE, platform, and operations teams.
Contribute to continuous improvement and engineering excellence.

What will you do?

You will join a large-scale enterprise transformation initiative focused on modernizing and enhancing critical business applications. In this role, you will design, develop, integrate, and support enterprise-grade Java microservices while contributing to an AI-enabled software development lifecycle. You will work closely with architects, Tech Leads, QA, SRE, and platform teams to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient solutions in a complex, highly regulated environment.

Build, test, release, and support Java microservices and related components
Contribute to solution design and integration patterns aligned with target architecture and non-functional requirements
Identify and help resolve technical risks, dependencies, and delivery blockers
Follow and contribute to engineering standards, CI/CD practices, and quality controls
Deliver robust unit, integration, and contract testing
Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and security reviews
Use AI-assisted engineering tools while maintaining security, quality, and governance standards
Apply GenAI development practices including LLM usage, RAG concepts, and agent-based workflows
Build production-ready services with strong observability and operational readiness
Support release activities, integrations, and environment readiness
Collaborate with engineering, architecture, QA, platform, and operations teams
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering excellence

Requirements

At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience

Strong hands-on experience with Python development in enterprise-scale environments

Good practical knowledge of Java and experience working with Java microservices based on Spring Boot

Experience working in enterprise-scale environments
Strong knowledge of Oracle or PostgreSQL databases
Experience with schema design, performance optimization, and transactional systems
Strong unit and integration testing experience using tools such as JUnit, Mockito, and Testcontainers
Experience with API and contract testing
Hands-on experience with Azure cloud services
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and quality gates
Knowledge of Jenkins or GitLab
Understanding of Sonar, SAST, DAST, and dependency scanning
Strong understanding of REST APIs, messaging, event-driven architectures, and integration patterns
Experience contributing to technical design decisions and architectural discussions
Leadership experience and strong collaboration skills
Practical exposure to GenAI tools and software engineering use cases
Understanding of LLM concepts, RAG patterns, AI governance, and engineering controls
Knowledge of secure coding practices and security-by-design principles
Openness to work hybrid from our client's office (Kraków) 8 days a month

Nice to have

Experience in financial services or other highly regulated industries
Knowledge of containers and Kubernetes
Exposure to service mesh technologies
Experience with observability platforms, logging, metrics, and tracing
