Job summary

Arista Networks is seeking a Layer1 Software Engineer to design and develop software for the physical layer, enabling reliable 1GBASE-T to 400G connectivity across devices.

You will work with hardware, optics and firmware teams, implementing robust control software, telemetry, and debugging across diverse platforms. Strong C/C++ and Python skills plus Linux and networking knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in CS/EE/CE or equivalent experience.
• Expert knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
• Experience with UNIX/Linux environments.
• Knowledge of networking concepts and IP protocols.
• Familiarity with distributed systems and software design principles.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Layer1 software across hardware interfaces.
• Architect and implement features in C, C++, and Python.
• Write tests and test infra to validate Layer1 functionality.
• Collaborate with hardware/optics teams to bring components to market.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.
• Troubleshoot customer network issues and fix defects.
