Job summary

EPAM Systems in Kraków is seeking a Junior Java Software Engineer to join a modern, lean engineering team working directly with clients to build scalable, high-performance platforms. You will contribute to architecture, write tests, and deliver features end-to-end, often taking ownership of apps with autonomy.

The role emphasizes collaboration across engineers, architects, and product managers, with opportunities to grow in cloud technologies and a fast-paced, startup-like culture.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with Java, SQL and unit testing.
• Understanding of algorithms and data structures, CI/CD and Google Cloud Platform.
• Strong communication skills in English (B2) and client-facing experience.

Responsibilities

• Communicate directly with clients to collect and analyze needs.
• Create documentation including PRDs, test cases, and design docs.
• Work independently as the sole developer on an app when required.

We are looking for a Junior Java Software Engineer to join a modern, lean, self-governing engineering team that values transparency and trust, working directly with clients on a daily basis to build scalable, high-performance platforms leveraged by external customers to create paradigm-shifting applications and solutions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a group of world-class engineers, architects, and product managers to build and maintain scalable, high-performance platforms
• Communicate directly with clients to collect and analyze their needs
• Create necessary documentation, including PRDs, test cases, and design docs
• Work independently as the sole developer on an app from idea to ready product when required
• Deliver quality work on time while handling multiple tasks simultaneously
• Apply cloud technologies and microservices architecture principles to project development
• Question the status quo and seek individual mastery while working with autonomy
• Contribute to a culture of purpose, transparency, and trust within the team
• Approach problems by identifying root causes rather than jumping directly into solution mode
• Make decisions considering business impact and justify compromises between quality and speed

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience with Java, SQL, and unit testing
• Knowledge of algorithms and data structures, continuous integration, and Google Cloud Platform
• BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• Understanding of application security
• Familiarity with Git or other version control systems
• Excellent English communication skills (B2 level) with experience in client-facing communications
• Strong self-management and prioritization skills
• Capability to work in an agile environment without direct supervision
• Understanding of information management, data modeling, system integration, and development methodologies

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Google Cloud Spanner
• Knowledge of gRPC
