Job summary

ABB is seeking an IS Architect within the Enterprise Architecture team to develop, adopt, and refine architecture standards, reference architectures, and governance across the IS landscape.

You will collaborate with Domain and Solution Architects to ensure alignment with ABB's enterprise vision, driving standardization, reuse, and optimization while embedding EA practices across Business Areas and Divisions in a hybrid work setup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in IT, CS, engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience in Enterprise, Domain, or Solution Architecture.
• Strong knowledge of EA principles, frameworks, standards, governance processes.
• Experience with TOGAF and Ardoq.
• Familiarity with architecture reviews, compliance assessments, and exception management.
• Experience in complex, decentralized, matrix organizations.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Define, maintain, and improve enterprise architecture principles, standards, reference architectures, and reusable architecture building blocks.
• Partner with Domain Architects to align domain architectures with ABB's enterprise architecture vision, strategy, and target state.
• Drive standardization, interoperability, reuse, and optimization across the ABB IS landscape.
• Provide guidance to Domain and Solution Architects on applying architecture principles and best practices.
• Contribute to architecture governance processes, reviews, compliance assessments, and risk management.
• Promote adoption of enterprise architecture methodologies, frameworks, tools, and governance practices across Business Areas and Divisions.
• Facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and stakeholder engagement across enterprise, domain, solution, and business teams to strengthen architecture maturity.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices to enhance capability and governance.

This position reports to:

Global Head IS Enterprise Architecture

Your role and responsibilities:

The IS Architect within the Enterprise Architecture team supports the development, adoption and continuous improvement of enterprise architecture standards, reference architectures, methodologies and governance practices across ABB. Working closely with Enterprise and Domain Architects, the role contributes to the definition and maintenance of architecture principles, standards and reusable architectural assets, helping ensure consistency, alignment and optimization of the IS landscape.

The role helps embed the Enterprise Architecture practice across ABB Business Areas and Divisions and supports architecture governance activities, ensuring decisions are transparent, documented and aligned with strategic objectives.

The role reports to the Enterprise Architecture Practice & Governance Lead and has no direct reports

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Define, maintain, and continuously improve enterprise architecture principles, standards, reference architectures, and reusable architecture building blocks.
• Partner with Domain Architects to ensure alignment of domain architectures with ABB's enterprise architecture vision, strategy, and target state.
• Drive standardization, simplification, interoperability, reuse, and optimization across the ABB IS landscape.
• Provide guidance and support to Domain and Solution Architects, ensuring consistent application of architecture principles, standards, and best practices.
• Contribute to architecture governance processes, reviews, compliance assessments, and the management of architecture risks, deviations, and decisions.
• Promote the adoption of enterprise architecture methodologies, frameworks, tools, and governance practices across Business Areas and Divisions.
• Facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and stakeholder engagement across enterprise, domain, solution, and business teams to strengthen architecture maturity.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices, identifying opportunities to enhance enterprise architecture capabilities, practices, and governance. .

Qualifications for the role:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience in Enterprise, Domain, Solution Architecture, technology consulting, or a related architecture discipline.
• Strong understanding of enterprise architecture principles, frameworks, standards, governance processes, and reference architectures.
• Experience with architecture methodologies and modeling tools, preferably TOGAF and Ardoq.
• Knowledge of architecture reviews, compliance assessments, and exception management processes.
• Experience working within complex, decentralized, matrix, or multi-division organizations.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills, with a structured and proactive approach.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority.
