The IoT Platform Engineer role combines hands‑on engineering and platform ownership responsibilities and is accountable for maintaining, evolving, and scaling the organization’s IoT ingestion platform (SENS). The role ensures high availability, data integrity, and performance of device data flowing from the field into core digital products and analytics platforms.

This role designs and delivers improvements to the ingestion pipeline based on business and technical needs, supports the onboarding of new device types and data sources in collaboration with local market teams and device manufacturers, and proactively monitors platform health to resolve incidents and performance bottlenecks.

The role manages time‑series data schemas and storage strategies, optimizes cloud infrastructure for scalability and cost efficiency, and contributes to DevOps practices including CI/CD, infrastructure‑as‑code, and system observability.

In this role, the engineer works closely with data engineering, product, and operations teams to ensure data quality and availability, while also supporting experimentation in edge computing and emerging IoT capabilities within the on‑trade environment. The role plays a key part in enabling reliable, future‑ready IoT platforms that support global scale and innovation.

Responsibilities
  • Own and maintain the IoT data ingestion platform, ensuring high availability, performance, scalability, and data integrity across global deployments.
  • Design, develop, and deploy enhancements to the ingestion pipeline based on evolving business, technical, and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with local market teams, device manufacturers, and internal stakeholders to onboard, support, and scale new device types and data sources.
  • Monitor platform health and system performance, proactively identifying and resolving incidents, bottlenecks, and reliability risks.
  • Manage and evolve time‑series data schemas, storage strategies, and data access patterns to support downstream analytics and product use cases.
  • Optimize cloud infrastructure and services to balance cost efficiency, scalability, and operational resilience.
  • Contribute to DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure‑as‑code, observability, and automated testing.
  • Work closely with data engineering, product, and operations teams to ensure data quality, availability, and alignment with product needs (e.g., integrating with existing tools like AIDDA & Product recommender).
  • Support experimentation in edge computing and emerging IoT capabilities, helping translate innovation into scalable, production‑ready solutions.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in IoT systems, particularly collecting and managing data from field devices (e.g., flow meters, smart fridges, vending units).
  • Solid hands‑on experience with AWS services including (but not limited to) IoT Core, Lambda, Kinesis/Data Streams, S3, CloudWatch, and ECS/Fargate.
  • Strong knowledge of time‑series data architecture, with experience using CrateDB or similar databases (e.g., MongoDB or DynamoDB).
  • Proficiency in Python, Node.js, or similar languages used for building microservices and data ingestion scripts.
  • Experience with API integration, data serialization (e.g., JSON, Protobuf), and working with constrained devices.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Comfort working in agile product teams, collaborating with stakeholders across business and technical functions, on a global scale across different time zones and cultures.
  • High degree of individual proactiveness, eagerness to learn, and a commitment to distributing knowledge via verbal (presentation) or written format, used to work with tools like SharePoint, Jira, and Confluence.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with MQTT, 4G/5G, or other IoT communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of edge computing practices and devices.
  • Understanding of device fleet management and remote diagnostics.
  • Previous experience supporting a multi‑country deployment or globally scaled IoT solution.
  • Passion for sustainability, data‑driven insights, and modernizing traditional industries through technology.
