Job summary

ABB Traction division seeks a seasoned Sourcing Manager to lead strategic procurement for mechanical components across locations. You will define sourcing strategies, build a capable supplier base, and negotiate contracts with major suppliers to deliver quality, cost, and sustainability targets.

The role requires extensive experience in strategic sourcing, category management, and international stakeholder management, with fluency in English and beneficial German language skills.

Qualifications

• University degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in Strategic Sourcing, Category Management, or Procurement.
• Experience in supplier negotiations, contract management, and category strategy development.
• Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to build effective relationships with both internal and external partners in an international environment.
• Fluent English; German language skills will be considered an advantage.
• Knowledge of mechanical components and experience in the railway industry is a plus.
• Results-oriented mindset with the ability to drive cost optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems (e.g., SAP).

Responsibilities

• Planning and implementing sourcing strategies aligned with business strategy and ensuring supply base capacity.
• Identify, investigate, and select suppliers focusing on quality, delivery, cost, and sustainability in collaboration with Engineering and R&D.
• Identify cost reduction or avoidance potentials and trigger actions with Engineering/R&D to materialize savings.
• Negotiate pricing and sourcing frame agreements with main suppliers; periodically renew price lists.
• Manage relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

You will support the strategic needs of all locations of division Traction by defining the sourcing strategy, securing a suitable supplier base, negotiating pricing and contractual conditions and initiating cost reduction initiatives.
