Job description

The Execution Technology team at Balyasny owns the trading infrastructure that connects portfolio managers and traders to global markets. The team is responsible for the platforms, tools, and user interfaces that support order management, trade execution, real-time market data consumption, and execution analytics across asset classes.

As part of this team, Front End Engineers build the front-office UI layer — the applications and interfaces that traders and PMs interact with every day. This includes developing intuitive, performant, and reliable user experiences for mission-critical workflows in fast-paced trading environments.

You will work closely with backend engineers, product stakeholders, and front-office users to deliver modern, user-centric applications that support execution workflows and evolve with business needs.

The Role

We are looking for a talented and motivated Front End Engineer to join the Execution Technology team. You will help design and build responsive, high-performance web applications used by the front office, with a strong focus on usability, real-time data visualization, and engineering quality.

This is a hands‑on engineering role with exposure to trading workflows, real‑time data systems, and production environments where performance, reliability, and user experience matter.

The ideal candidate will bring minimum 4 years of professional experience in front‑end engineering or UI application development, with a strong foundation in modern web technologies and a passion for building high‑quality user experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build responsive, high‑performance front‑end applications for the trading desk, including order management UIs, execution dashboards, and real‑time blotters.
• Develop reusable, scalable UI components and contribute to a consistent front‑end architecture across applications.
• Consume and visualize real‑time streaming data from internal services.
• Collaborate closely with backend engineers and front‑office stakeholders, including traders and PMs, to translate complex workflows into intuitive user interfaces.
• Transform designs and wireframes into clean, maintainable, and well‑documented production code.
• Contribute to UI standards, code reviews, and front‑end best practices across the team.
• Optimize application performance for high‑frequency updates and data‑heavy interfaces.
• Support production during trading hours and respond quickly to issues in time‑sensitive trading environments.
• Work in an agile environment, iterating quickly based on user feedback and evolving business requirements.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 4 years of professional experience in front‑end engineering, UI engineering, or modern web application development.
• Proficiency in React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
• Experience building real‑time data UIs using WebSockets or other streaming technologies.
• Experience working with data grid / tabular UI libraries such as AG Grid.
• Strong understanding of web performance optimization, including rendering efficiency, virtualization, throttling/debouncing, and memory management.
• Familiarity with testing frameworks such as Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright.
• Experience with modern front‑end build tools and workflows, including package management, bundling, and version control.
• Comfortable working with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and modern development practices.
• Ability to understand business requirements and convert them into practical technical solutions.
• AI‑assisted development mindset: comfortable using AI tools to improve speed and productivity while applying strong judgement around validation, testing, security, and maintainability.

Domain Experience

• Experience working in trading technology, execution technology, or other business‑critical financial systems is preferred.
• Familiarity with trading concepts such as order types, execution workflows, FIX protocol, market data, or P&L is beneficial.
• Exposure to EMS/OMS systems is a plus.
• Background in financial market data tools or internal business applications is advantageous.

Preferred / Additional Skills

• Familiarity with design systems and reusable component libraries.
• Exposure to UX and interface design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or similar platforms.
• Understanding of authentication, SSO, and authorization patterns in enterprise applications.
• Experience building applications across desktop and mobile‑friendly responsive layouts.
• Interest in creating user‑centric, accessible, and intuitive interfaces.
