Job summary

Kraken is hiring to lead and grow a global team of engineers building core trading backend services, including the matching engine and data gateways. The role emphasizes staying technically hands-on while guiding architecture and roadmap across C++, Rust, Go, and Python.

Qualifications

• Experience managing engineering teams, with a preference for managers who stay technically engaged.
• Hands-on experience in Linux-based distributed/high-concurrency or low-latency/high-volume environments.
• Proficiency in Rust and/or C++, and comfort with multi-language stacks (C++, Rust, Go, Python).
• Knowledge of order types, trading systems, and financial products.
• Experience with Aeron or similar messaging systems a strong plus.
• Comfort with multicast-based market data distribution a plus.
• Cryptocurrency familiarity highly desirable.
• BS in a technical or quantitative field.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of 8-10 engineers owning core trading backend services.
• Guide the team through evolution from legacy to modern trading stack.
• Stay technically close enough to unblock and contribute to architecture discussions across stack.
• Champion performance and market data work as top priorities.
• Introduce AI-assisted engineering practices into the workflow.
• Partner cross-functionally with product and other engineering pods to drive roadmap execution.
• Represent the team technically with peers and stakeholders, communicating tradeoffs clearly.
