Job description

Software, the fuel for mobility

We bring bold digital visions to life. So we're on the lookout for more curious and creative engineers who want to create change - one line of high-quality code at a time. Our transformation isn't for everyone, but if you're excited about solving the leading-edge technological challenges facing the auto industry, then let's talk about your next move.

As an Engineer at our Krakow Tech Hub, you will be a part of an agile team, working closely with other software engineers, testers, and architects. The team you will be joining is dedicated to developing and maintaining microcontroller firmware (Cortex-M) for the house-keeping processor in Volvo's newest electric vehicles - including the EX90, ES90, EX30, and other upcoming models. The MCU is responsible for power management, diagnostics, communication interfaces, and thermal management within the infotainment system.

What You'll Do

Your primary focus will be designing, developing, and maintaining the pytest-based integration test framework running on Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) setups. You will leverage your embedded background - understanding of MCU architecture, memory constraints, and peripheral behavior - to write meaningful, well-targeted integration tests that validate firmware functionality. You will be responsible for ensuring comprehensive test coverage, writing robust and maintainable test suites, and continuously improving the test infrastructure. Beyond testing, you'll contribute to tooling and flashing scripts that support the development workflow, and when needed, to the embedded C/C++ codebase itself. This role is ideal for an embedded engineer who enjoys Python and is excited to apply their microcontroller expertise in a testing-focused capacity.

What You'll Bring

To thrive as an Embedded Software Engineer in Kraków Volvo Tech Hub, you will need an embedded systems background combined with strong Python skills and openness to working primarily in Python. We are seeking professionals who possess the following qualifications:

  • Experience in embedded software development with understanding of MCU architecture (ARM Cortex-M preferred), memory constraints, and peripheral interfaces.
  • Good programming skills in Python with practical experience in pytest or similar test frameworks.
  • Experience with or strong interest in test automation and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing.
  • Ability to write and maintain embedded C/C++ code as well as read and navigate existing firmware codebases.
  • Familiarity with common communication protocols such as CAN, UART, I2C, or SPI.
  • Familiarity with real-time operating systems concepts; exposure to SafeRTOS or similar RTOS is an advantage.
  • Some familiarity with embedded toolchains (e.g., IAR, GCC) or debugging tools (e.g., ST-Link).
  • Experience with version control (Git) and willingness to work within CI/CD workflows.
  • Interest in scripting for device flashing, automation, and developer tooling.
  • Openness to working primarily in Python while applying embedded domain knowledge.
Additional Qualifications
  • Fluency in spoken and written English to facilitate effective communication within the team and with stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to ensure productive teamwork.
  • Previous professional experience in the automotive industry, especially within embedded systems or infotainment domain.
