Colibri Group is seeking an Editor to support course development by reviewing, copy editing, and proofreading instructional materials. You will be part of a fast-paced team producing high-quality courses for Becker Professional Education, with a focus on accuracy, consistency, and adherence to style guidelines.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least three years of editing experience, plus strong command of editing styles and MS Office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Communications or Journalism.
  • At least three years editing experience in editorial, publication or education.
  • Experience with APA, CMS, AP styles is required.
  • Exceptional stylistic and language abilities are required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Acrobat and PowerPoint; InDesign and InCopy a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Review, copy edit, and make editing recommendations for instructional materials.
  • Check grammar, spelling, punctuation, accuracy, consistency, coherence, and clarity.
  • Suggest content improvements and clarity for content creators.
  • Update style guidelines and standards; maintain design and writing consistency.
  • Perform limited fact checking and proof reading; ensure TOC, index, and page references are accurate.

Position Overview

The Editor will be responsible for supporting the course development effort by reviewing, copy editing, and proofing all instructional and course materials during the development process. The Editor will be an integral member of a team whose objective, in a fast-paced environment, is the production of high-quality and innovative courses for our students.

Position Requirements & Major Responsibilities
  • Review, copy edit, and make editing recommendations for textual content of instructional materials, including (but not limited to) textbooks, multimedia lectures, instructor materials, flashcards, exams, questions, and administrative materials.
  • Material reviewed for grammar, spelling, punctuation, accuracy, consistency, coherence, clarity, logic, and adherence to approved style guidelines and standards.
  • Make suggestions to content creators for clarity and appropriateness of content.
  • Make recommendations concerning design and writing standards. Update and maintain any appropriate style guidelines and standards.
  • Perform limited fact checking and research, as required.
  • Review and proofread pages or online layout for formatting, and production/design guidelines.
  • Proofread pages and/or online layout and material to ensure corrections were accurately incorporated.
  • For print material, ensure page numbers, TOC, index, and page references are accurate and free of print issues prior to submission to the print vendor.
  • Review printer proofs before final sign-off.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree is required in a related field, such as English, Education, Communications, or Journalism.
  • At least three years of editing experience in editorial or other publication or education environment.
  • Experience working with established editorial styles (APA, CMS, AP, etc.) is required.
  • Exceptional stylistic and language abilities are required.
  • Solid experience and skill with Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with Acrobat, and PowerPoint a plus. Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and InCopy a plus for some positions.
  • Ability to manage time and multiple concurrent projects effectively is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in work.
  • Ability to grasp complex subject matter and synthesize information quickly.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and professional deadline-driven environment with many projects and initiatives.
  • Be highly motivated and be comfortable making decisions and judgment calls on content development.
