Job summary

DICK’S Sporting Goods is seeking a Director, Corporate Counsel – Product & Patents to lead patent clearance activities and manage the company’s IP portfolio. You will guide product teams, drafts opinions, and coordinate with outside counsel across the product lifecycle.

The ideal candidate has a JD, 3–5 years of patent/IP experience, and is adept at translating technical findings into business guidance for engineering and design teams.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission in good standing to at least one U.S. state bar and eligibility for in-house counsel registration.
• 3–5 years of patent/IP experience in a law firm or corporate setting.
• Hands-on patent searches, freedom-to-operate analyses and patentability assessments.

Responsibilities

• Conduct prior-art, freedom-to-operate, patentability and landscape searches for products.
• Analyze third-party patents and advise on infringement risks and design-arounds.
• Draft design and utility patent applications and manage outside prosecution counsel.
• Manage the patent portfolio, prosecution strategy, deadlines, and records.
