Job summary

TALOGY is seeking a Developer DBA to steward SQL Server, Azure SQL, and Cosmos DB environments, ensuring health, security, performance and recoverability. You will build and support data pipelines with SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and Fabric, and partner with BI teams to deliver robust reporting using SSRS and Power BI.

The role emphasizes strong database fundamentals, hands-on troubleshooting, and collaboration with Development, DevOps, and Client Solutions teams across global operations.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on database administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL, including configuration, security, backup/recovery, monitoring and performance.
• Practical experience administering and supporting Azure database technologies such as Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance and/or Cosmos DB.
• Good understanding of the database lifecycle from design through deployment and support.
• Experience developing, maintaining and troubleshooting ETL/data-integration using SSIS, Azure Data Factory and/or Microsoft Fabric with multiple data sources.
• Experience developing, maintaining or supporting reporting solutions using SSRS and/or Power BI.
• Working knowledge of Power BI architecture with troubleshooting connectivity issues.
• Experience using Python and/or PowerShell for scripting and automation.
• Experience using GitHub or similar Git-based source-control platforms for version control and collaboration.
• Strong T-SQL skills including writing complex queries and performance tuning.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for database and data-platform issues.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to self-organise, prioritise and work independently or in a team.
• Willingness to participate in on-call support or shift work for business-critical services.

Who We Are Looking For

This opportunity is ideal for a proactive and analytical individual with strong database fundamentals who enjoys working across a broad range of data technologies. The successful candidate will be comfortable troubleshooting technical issues, learning new technologies and applying a high level of attention to detail.

The Developer DBA will spend most of their time administering and supporting databases and database services, ensuring their health, availability, security, performance and recoverability. The role also includes developing and supporting data integration solutions using technologies such as SSIS and Azure Data Factory/Fabric, together with supporting SSRS and Power BI reporting solutions.

We are looking for a Developer DBA with strong database administration and development skills, together with practical experience across Microsoft and Azure data technologies. Our environment includes SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, SSIS, Azure Data Factory/Fabric pipelines, Power BI and ETL solutions integrating diverse data sources. We do not expect candidates to be experts in every technology. Strong database fundamentals are essential, together with practical experience across several of the technologies in our data platform and a willingness to develop skills in others.

Core Responsibilities

The Developer DBA is primarily responsible for:

• Understand business and technical requirements and contribute to the design and implementation of appropriate, supportable solutions. Clearly explain and justify technical design decisions to colleagues and stakeholders.
• Administer, maintain and support SQL Server, Azure SQL Database/Managed Instance and Azure Cosmos DB environments, including security, performance, availability, backup and recovery.
• Develop, support and maintain SSIS packages and Azure Data Factory/Fabric data pipelines, including troubleshooting failed or poorly performing data workflows.
• Provide BAU operational support for SQL and NoSQL database platforms, including monitoring, patching, upgrades, incident resolution and routine maintenance.
• Work closely with Development, Infrastructure, DevOps and Client Solutions teams to troubleshoot issues, deliver technical changes and provide reliable data-platform services.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of resilient, reliable, secure and cost-effective database and data-platform solutions.
• Proactively monitor database health, performance, capacity and data-platform services, responding to alerts and identifying issues before they impact users.
• Follow and contribute to database, development, security, documentation and operational best practices.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and ensure database scripts, configuration and project artefacts are appropriately source-controlled.
• Monitor database performance, resource utilisation and query throughput, investigating and resolving performance issues.
• Tune T-SQL, queries, stored procedures and database structures where required to improve performance.
• Monitor database backup processes and ensure backups are completed and retained in accordance with agreed company SLAs; assist with restore and recovery testing.

Essential Experience and Skills

• Strong hands-on database administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL, including database configuration, security, backup/recovery, monitoring, troubleshooting and performance tuning.
• Practical experience administering and supporting Azure database technologies such as Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance and/or Azure Cosmos DB.
• Good understanding of the database lifecycle, from logical and physical database design through implementation, deployment, administration and ongoing support.
• Practical experience developing, maintaining and troubleshooting ETL/data-integration solutions using technologies such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory and/or Microsoft Fabric, including integrations involving multiple data sources.
• Experience developing, maintaining or supporting reporting solutions using SSRS and/or Power BI.
• Working knowledge of Power BI architecture and components, with the ability to troubleshoot common reporting and connectivity issues.
• Experience using Python and/or PowerShell for scripting, automation, data processing or operational tasks.
• Experience using GitHub or similar Git-based source-control platforms for version control, collaboration and code review.
• Strong T-SQL skills, including writing and troubleshooting complex queries, stored procedures, functions and views, together with an understanding of query performance and optimisation.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with experience diagnosing database, performance, connectivity, data-integration and production support issues.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to self-organise, prioritise and track tasks, and to work independently or as part of a team.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call support rota and/or shift working where required to support business-critical services.

Desirable Experience and Skills

• Experience with CI/CD practices for database and data-platform deployments, using technologies such as Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.
• Exposure to Azure AI Foundry or other Azure AI services.
• Familiarity with .NET/C# applications and their interaction with database systems.
• Relevant Microsoft Azure, database or data-platform certifications are desirable but not essential.
