Job summary

Auctane is seeking a Database Engineer to design, implement, and optimize relational database systems. The role focuses on PostgreSQL and SQL Server management in AWS, ensuring data integrity, availability, and performance across enterprise applications.

The ideal candidate will translate business requirements into scalable database solutions, work with IT teams, and contribute to disaster recovery planning. Hybrid work options are available for this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• In-depth knowledge and proficiency in PL/pgSQL and T-SQL.
• Strong understanding of database design principles, including normalization, indexing, and data modeling.
• Knowledge of AWS RDS and database security best practices, including authentication and encryption.

Responsibilities

• Develop database schemas, tables, and indexes to optimize performance and ensure data integrity.
• Implement and maintain database security measures, including user authentication, access controls, and data encryption.
• Analyze and interpret database performance metrics to proactively identify areas for improvement.
• Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues such as slow queries, locks, and contention.
• Identify and address performance bottlenecks through query optimization, index tuning, and configuration adjustments.
• Optimize indexes, execution plans, and caching to improve application responsiveness.
• Write and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures for efficient data access.
• Configure and maintain replication, clustering, or failover mechanisms for resilience.
• Collaborate with developers to align schemas with application requirements and workflows.
• Perform regular backups and disaster recovery procedures to ensure data availability.

About the role

As DBE, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the organization's relational database systems. This role will ensure the integrity, availability, and performance of critical data to support business operations and decision-making processes. The DBE will work closely with IT teams, developers, and business stakeholders to deliver efficient and scalable database solutions that meet the organization's current and future needs. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in Postgres and SQL Server database management systems hosted in AWS, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to translate business requirements into effective relational database solutions. This role will be critical in maintaining the organization's data infrastructure, enabling data-driven decision-making, and ensuring the optimal performance of mission-critical applications across the enterprise.

What will you be doing?

• Develop database schemas, tables, and indexes to optimize performance and ensure data integrity.
• Implement and maintain database security measures, including user authentication, access controls, and data encryption.
• Analyze and interpret database performance metrics to proactively identify areas for improvement
• Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues such as slow queries, database locks, and resource contention.
• Identify and address performance bottlenecks through query optimization, index tuning, and database configuration adjustments.
• Optimize database indexes, query execution plans, and caching strategies to improve application responsiveness and scalability.
• Write and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures to efficiently retrieve and manipulate data.
• Configure and maintain database replication, clustering, or failover mechanisms to provide resilience against hardware failures, network outages, or natural disasters.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to database best practices, performance guidelines, and data access patterns.
• Collaborate with software developers to design database schemas that align with application requirements and development workflows.
• Work closely with application developers to optimize SQL queries, data access patterns, and database interactions for maximum efficiency.
• Perform regular backups and disaster recovery procedures to ensure data availability and integrity.
• Stay abreast of emerging database technologies, trends, and best practices through self-study, training, and participation in industry forums and conferences.

What are we looking for?

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field In-depth knowledge and proficiency in PL\pgSQL and T-SQL
