Job summary

CrustLab in Kraków is seeking a seasoned backend engineer to join our team building scalable services for iGaming, fintech and blockchain solutions. You will work primarily in Node.js with TypeScript, design REST and gRPC APIs, manage data across relational and NoSQL stores, and participate in cloud deployments on AWS/Azure/GCP.

You will own features end-to-end, contribute to DevOps tasks, help shape architecture with hexagonal and modular patterns, and collaborate in an Agile Scrum environment.

Qualifications

4+ years of hands-on experience in a Node.js environment.
Proficiency in TypeScript and strongly typed languages.
Practical experience with both relational and non-relational databases (e.g., MongoDB).
Experience implementing REST and gRPC APIs, WebSockets, and message queues.

Responsibilities

Own full lifecycle development of backend services.
Feature development based on user stories and tasks.
Support the DevOps team in configuring and maintaining environments.
Participate in developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for modules.

Requirements

At least 4 years of hands-on experience working in a Node.js environment.,
Proficiency in strongly typed programming languages, with a particular focus on TypeScript,
Practical experience with both relational and non-relational databases (e.g., MongoDB),
Experience in implementing various communication protocols, including building REST and gRPC APIs, synchronous communication (WebSockets), and asynchronous communication (Message Queues, e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar),
Proficiency in working with containers and an understanding of orchestration tools like Kubernetes,
Solid knowledge of architectural patterns, such as Hexagonal Architecture, Modular Monolith, and the Outbox Pattern,
Strong sense of ownership over a given module or functional area, including code quality and system reliability,
Ability to work with an AI-assisted programming approach and effectively collaborate with coding agents,
Hands-on production experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP),
Openness to engaging in DevOps tasks (environment configuration, CI/CD, IaC basics) alongside core backend development responsibilities,
Practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar),
Good knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform,
Basic knowledge of infrastructure monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch),
Practical application of Test-Driven Development (TDD) in daily work. We emphasize writing tests as an integral part of the development process rather than an afterthought. We expect proficiency in writing various types of tests (unit, integration) and experience with tools like Testcontainers,
Strong command of English (min. B2, written and verbal) and Polish (fluent).

You will be focusing mainly on

Full Lifecycle Involvement: Participating in all phases of the software development life cycle,
Feature Development: Implementing new features based on user stories and assigned tasks,
Supporting the DevOps team in configuring and maintaining environments (production, staging, development),
Participating in the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines for your own modules
Progress Tracking & Documentation: Monitoring work progress in JIRA and documenting all implemented changes,
Code Quality & Review: writing well-designed, testable, and efficient code & conducting and participating in code reviews,
Maintenance: Troubleshooting and fixing bugs identified in the production environment,
Agile Collaboration: Working within the Scrum framework, including active participation in project meetings with the team, clients, and Project Managers,
Growth & Mentorship: Developing personal skills and supporting team growth through knowledge sharing, mentoring, recommending new tools, and seeking best-in-class solutions.
