Job summary

Akamai Inference Cloud is hiring a Senior II Platform Engineer Lead to shape the foundations of a global AI inference platform. You will design core platform components, drive secure API infrastructure, and supervise Kubernetes-based deployments to ensure high performance at scale.

You will mentor engineers, guide architectural decisions, and pursue capacity planning to support growing traffic and regional deployments across a flexible work model.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating internet-facing platform services such as API gateways, ingress layers, reverse proxies, or service infrastructure.
• Advanced cloud-native architectures with containerization and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Demonstrated leadership guiding engineers, setting standards, and delivering complex platform solutions.
• Experience with authentication, authorization, traffic management, and API security patterns.
• Strong observability, monitoring, and incident response for large-scale distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of critical platform components for Akamai Inference Cloud, ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Drive technical decisions for domain tools, frameworks, and architectural approaches for secure, scalable services.
• Advance platform capabilities including authentication, load balancing, rate limiting, firewall integration, and externally facing API patterns.
• Design and improve data plane APIs, including OpenAI-compatible interfaces for diverse workloads.
• Define and enhance observability through metrics, logging, tracing, and diagnostics for distributed systems.
• Lead capacity planning and scalability strategies to support growth in traffic, models, and regional deployments.
• Orchestrate Kubernetes-based patterns for platform services, ensuring resilient deployment of containerized workloads.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and problem solving.
