Job summary

ECCO Warsaw is seeking an Accounting Control & Compliance Team Lead to drive high-quality close, balance sheet integrity and P&L accuracy across the global scope.

You will lead senior finance professionals, own complex topics and push transformation, standardization and automation within the Record to Report processes. Fluent English and SAP expertise are essential for this key role based in Warsaw.

Qualifications

• 10-15+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, controllership, or Record to Report functions.
• Minimum 5 years of people leadership experience, preferably leading senior or specialist finance teams.
• Strong technical accounting background with international, multi-entity exposure.
• Experience in statutory reporting, audit coordination, governance and compliance topics.
• Balance sheet management, financial controls, and risk mitigation knowledge.
• Track record in process transformation, standardization or automation initiatives.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to lead through ambiguity.
• University degree in Finance/Accounting; ACCA/CPA/CIMA or equivalent highly preferred.
• Fluent English and SAP or similar ERP knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of Accounting Controllers, ensuring ownership and accountability.
• Oversee period-end close and financial reporting across entities and regions.
• Safeguard balance sheet integrity and P&L accuracy through analytical review and follow-up actions.
• Escalate complex, non-routine accounting, compliance and control topics.
• Ensure compliance with group policies, local statutory requirements, and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate statutory financial statements and external audits with auditors and advisors.
• Oversee VAT, CIT, Transfer Pricing governance with Group Tax and external advisors.
• Strengthen internal controls and mitigate financial and operational risks.
• Drive standardization, automation and continuous improvement of Record to Report processes.
• Contribute to finance transformation projects, including system changes and data-driven reporting.
• Act as trusted finance partner to Finance leadership and global stakeholders.

Role Purpose

The Accounting Control & Compliance Team Lead is responsible for leading the Accounting Control function within the GBS Record to Report organization. The role ensures high-quality financial close, strong balance sheet and P&L integrity, effective statutory and compliance governance, and a robust control environment across a complex, international scope.

This position combines deep technical accounting expertise, leadership of senior finance professionals, ownership of complex judgment-based topics, and an active role in driving finance transformation, standardization, and automation.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of Accounting Controllers, ensuring clear ownership, accountability, and continuous capability development.
• Own and oversee the quality, accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of period-end close and financial reporting across the assigned entities and regions.
• Safeguard balance sheet integrity and P&L accuracy through strong analytical review, challenge of variances, and structured follow-up actions.
• Act as the escalation point for complex, non-routine, and judgment-based accounting, compliance, and control topics.
• Ensure compliance with group accounting policies, local statutory requirements, and relevant regulatory standards.
• Oversee statutory financial statements preparation and coordinate external audits, including interaction with auditors and external advisors.
• Supervise key tax-related governance areas (VAT, CIT, Transfer Pricing), working closely with Group Tax and external tax advisors.
• Strengthen the internal control environment and proactively identify, assess, and mitigate financial, compliance, and operational risks.
• Drive standardization, harmonization, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Record to Report processes.
• Contribute to finance transformation initiatives, including system changes, process optimization, and data-driven reporting enhancements.
• Act as a trusted finance partner to Finance leadership, Group Accounting, Business Controllers, and other global stakeholders.

Requirements

• Proven understanding of balance sheet management, financial controls, and risk mitigation.
• Minimum 5 years of people leadership experience, preferably leading senior or specialist finance teams.
• Demonstrated track record in process improvement, standardization, transformation, or automation initiatives.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to challenge constructively and lead through ambiguity.
• University degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline; professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent) is highly preferred.
• Fluent English required.
• Strong knowledge of ERP systems (SAP or equivalent).
